Elevated Fire Danger

Issued by the National Weather Service
For Hillsdale County, Michigan
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 8PM EDT MON …ELEVATED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON… THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK FOR GRASS, BRUSH AND DITCH FIRES AS WELL AS UNMONITORED CAMPFIRES TO SPREAD OUT OF CONTROL THIS AFTERNOON. BURNING IS NOT RECOMMENDED. AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO CLIMB INTO THE 70S WITH MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPING AS LOW AS 15 TO 25 PERCENT. IN ADDITION, SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 10 TO 15 MPH WITH A FEW HIGHER GUSTS ARE EXPECTED. THESE WEATHER FACTORS COMBINED WITH VERY DRY FUEL MOISTURE COULD LEAD TO SMALL FIRES OR UNMONITORED FIRES BECOMING OUT OF CONTROL QUICKLY. THE ELEVATED FIRE DANGER MAY EXIST INTO TUESDAY AS WELL WITH EVEN WARMER TEMPERATURES NEAR 80 AND WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. HOWEVER, HUMIDITY VALUES WILL RUN 10 TO 15 PERCENT HIGHER WHICH MAY HELP REDUCE SOME OF THE CONCERN. MAKE SURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING LOCAL LAWS THAT MAY BE IN PLACE REGARDING BURNING IN YOUR LOCATION. IF YOU MUST BURN, ENSURE THAT THE FIRE IS CONSTANTLY MONITORED AND SEVERAL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO QUICKLY EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH ANY QUESTIONS AND IS CONTROL OF THE FIRE IS LOST.
