Elevated Fire Danger Continued Today

Issued by the National Weather Service
For Hillsdale County, Michigan
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 7PM EDT WED …SOME FIRE DANGER TODAY… ALTHOUGH THE POTENTIAL FOR GRASS, BRUSH AND LEAF FIRES HAS DIMINISHED SINCE YESTERDAY, DRY CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH GUSTY WINDS AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRES TO SPREAD OUT OF CONTROL TODAY. A RECORD COLD EARLY SPRING HAS DELAYED SPRING GROWTH LEAVING LARGE AREAS OF DEAD BRUSH AND GRASSES. IN ADDITIONAL, LITTLE RAIN HAS FALLEN SINCE APRIL 20TH. AS TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE LOWER 80S THIS AFTERNOON, RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL DROP TO AROUND 45%. INCREASING WINDS TO BETWEEN 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH. COULD LEAD TO SMALL FIRES QUICKLY BECOMING OUT OF CONTROL.
