Coldwater, MI – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency (BHSJCHA) is reporting updated information on case counts in the tri-county area.  The number of positive cases in the 3-county jurisdiction as of 3 pm today includes 14 cases in St. Joseph County, 46 cases in Hillsdale County, 15 cases in Branch County and 31 at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Branch County.

Counts by County

Branch County Hillsdale County St. Joseph County
# of Positive Cases  15 + 31* 46 14
# of Deaths 1 3 0

*Cases in Lakeland Correctional Facility

Total cases statewide, from data compiled by MDHHS at 10 a.m. this morning and released at 3 pm today, are 17,721 with 727 deaths attributed to COVID-19.  BHSJCHA remains committed to thorough investigation and communication with all individuals affected by COVID-19.  The staff at BHSJCHA adhere to the MDHHS guidelines for testing and follow best practices for contact tracing and strictly adhere to patient privacy as required by HIPAA.

In a reversal of recommended practices for private citizens not ill, on April 3rd the CDC published a recommendation that everyone wear a facemask when out in a public space.  This recommendation was echoed today by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services who released Face Coverings: Frequently Asked Questions.  The MDHHS guidance recommends that Michiganders wear a face covering when outside of their home.  And reminds us that a face covering IS NOT a surgical or N95 mask which must be reserved for healthcare workers but IS a well secured cloth that covers the mouth and nose.
