A Litchfield man, who is charged with shooting his neighbor earlier this year, is expected to accept a plea agreement to a lesser charge in the case.
70 year-old Ned Kope was scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing in Hillsdale County Circuit Court, Monday.
He was initially charged with assault with intent to murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in the June first incident at his home.
Authorities say he shot his neighbor in the back of the head during a dispute.
Fortunately the neighbor’s injuries were not life threatening and he has since recovered.
Kope is expected to plead to misdemeanor charges of attempted careless use of a firearm causing injury and aggravated assault when he appears in district court.
The plea hearing is yet to be scheduled.
The charges carry a maximum of one year in jail.
Kope has been lodged at the Hillsdale County jail since his arrest,
