The Hillsdale City Council has approved a contract with a local company to undertake a street reconstruction project.

City Engineer Kristen Bauer updated the council, Monday, on the Westwood reconstruction project.

She said the city failed to garner any proposals when the project was put out to bid back in September.

Bauer said the reason for the lack of bids was based on the timeline for the project. She said the initial bid sheet included a requirement that the work be completed this year.

She said that requirement was removed from the latest bid packet.

Parrish Excavating of Quincy had the low bid of $4.9-million.

Bauer said Parrish is a reputable company with a history of working with the city, along with other local projects.

Council voted unanimously to award the bid to Parrish. They also approved $500,000 for a contingency fund to cover any overages.

Bauer said money for the project will come from the Water, Sewer and Road Construction Funds, along with a Special Assessment District, which will be levied on the property taxes of residents of the work area.
