A four-legged member of the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office will be better protected in the line of duty thanks to a New Jersey fundraiser and a Massachusetts non-profit organization.

The department announced in a recent social media post that K9 Drako will receive a bullet and stab protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s Inc, of Taunton, Massachusetts

K9 Drako’s vest is sponsored by a fundraiser hosted by Brittany Piccola of Watchung, NJ and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of Nancy Plis”.

The vest is expected to be delivered within eight to ten weeks.

“Vested Interest in K9s” is a charity that provides bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs across the U.S. The potentially lifesaving body armor is made in the USA and custom fitted to each recipient.

Since 2009, the organization has provided more than 5,000 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million–Funding comes from private and corporate donations.
