The Hillsdale Municipal Airport will celebrate its 60th Anniversary on Friday and the public is invited to take part.
Current Airport Manager Ginger Moore was there the day the airport opened!!!–on May 19, 1963.
Moore told WCSR her family lived near the site of the newly constructed facility. Her uncle was a pilot–and Opening Day was her first opportunity to ride in an airplane.
Moore’s parents eventually earned their pilots licenses as well—And she continued the family tradition.
An Anniversary Reception will be held during regular airport business hours–from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Friday.
Self-Serve refreshments will be available in the terminal building while they last.
VIsitors can view “birthday cards” that were created by students at Gier Elementary School. The cards are posted on the walls of the terminal building.
Renderings of the new terminal building which will be built later this year, will also be available for viewing.
Moore said after 60 years the Airport “looks better than ever.”
