The Hillsdale Township Fire Department has issued a burn ban until further notice for the department’s entire service area.

The move comes after the Michigan Department of Natural Resources elevated the statewide fire danger status to “EXTREME” which is the highest level of alert.

The Tri-State area hasn’t seen any measurable rain in more than two weeks, which has left grass and brush very dry and easily ignitable.

There may be some relief coming, as the National Weather Service is predicting a 50-to-60-percent chance of rain Saturday night through Monday.
