An effort to clean up a property led to a fire that destroyed two buildings East of Jonesville Tuesday, afternoon
The Jonesville Fire Department was dispatched to the scene in the 2700 block of East U.S. 12 around 12:30 PM.
The Moscow, North Adams, Litchfield and Somerset Township Fire Departments were dispatched ot assist.
Jonesville Fire Chief Dean Adair told WCSR News, the property owner was using a torch to ignite grass as part of cleanup efforts, when he turned around to see the fire getting out of hand.
The flames engulfed a pole barn, cargo trailer and an outbuilding.
Adair said the fire did not appear suspicious in nature–A State Police Fire Investigator will look into the incident.
There were no injuries. Firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours, clearing around 4:00 PM.
A Consumers Energy crew responded to the scene to shut down power to the area as the fire was near a high voltage overhead power line. About 100 customers were affected by the outage.
