As winds out of the North continue to push smoke from Canadian wildfires into the region, an Air Quality Alert remains in effect for the WCSR listening area.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy issued  

the alert Tuesday, as widespread smoke moved in. 

Due to the poor air quality, officials are urging residents to limit outdoor exertion. 

Those with respiratory ailments will be most affected.   

Officials are also asking residents to avoid activities that will contribute to air pollution, including outdoor burning, unnecessary driving and excessive idling of vehicles. 

The alert is in effect through today, as winds are expected to shift to the Southeast tonight.
