Voters in the Reading School district denied a request for an addition to the operating millage on Tuesday.
The 1.5-mill proposal was shot down by a narrow margin of just eight votes–(277-no to 269-yes.)
The additional millage was aimed at replacing money lost as a result of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.
The Reading Community School district includes the City of Reading and Reading Township, along with portions of Allen, Cambria, Camden and Woodbridge Townships in Hillsdale County and Algansee and California Townships in Branch County.
The results of Tuesday’s election are unofficial until they’re reviewed by the Hillsdale County Board of Election Canvassers.
That’s expected to happen later this week.
