The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a familiar scam circulating in the area. Scammers are targeting individuals by claiming they have a warrant for their arrest and urging them to pay immediately to resolve the issue.
In some instances, the scammers may also mention the need for DNA testing. However, the Sheriff’s Office wants to make it clear that this is a scam. They emphasize that law enforcement agencies would never request money over the phone.
The scammers may even send a barcode to the victim’s phone and ask them to have it scanned at a store to transfer the money. The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to be vigilant and not fall victim to the fraudulent calls.
They say anyone who receives such a call should hang up immediately and report it to local authorities.
