The Hillsdale City Council has set a public hearing for October 16th to discuss a proposed ordinance change that would ban pets from city cemeteries.

Currently, dogs are allowed in the cemeteries as long as they are leashed and confined to the roadways. However, city officials say some  owners have been disregarding the rule, allowing their pets to run unleashed and relieve themselves on headstones and other areas.

The Cemetery Board asked the City Attorney to draft an amended ordinance to address this ongoing concern.

The Public Services Committee reviewed the ordinance earlier this month and recommended that it be sent to the City Council for further discussion. The public hearing will provide an opportunity for residents to voice their opinions on the issue.
