Fire officials are urging caution when burning leaves, after an out-of-control fire damaged a Lenawee County Bridge, leading officials to shut down a road indefinitely.
According to a post on the department’s social media, The Hudson Fire Department was dispatched, Sunday afternoon, to an out of control leaf fire on Beecher Road just East of US-127.
They called for assistance from The Addison and Clayton Fire Departments, along with crews from Jefferson Township and Wright-Waldron Fire.
The flames reached the bridge over Saint Joseph Creek, causing extensive damage to the wooden structure.
The bridge is shut down until further notice.
Motorists will need to find alternate routes.
Property owners are reminded to assess the weather conditions before burning leaves and brush. Avoid burning when it’s windy–and never leave a fire unattended.
