Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire was among a number of Michigan law enforcement officials who took part in round table discussion with former President Donald Trump during his visit to Grand Rapids on Tuesday.

Sheriff Hodshire told WCSR News, the roundtable focused on border security, the growing drug problem and the number of officers killed in the line of duty.

Trump told attendees that, if elected, he’ll seek to make it a federal crime to kill a police officer–which means it could be punishable by the death penalty.

After the discussion, Hodshire and other members of law enforcement shared the stage with Trump during his speech at DeVos Place.

Hodshire told WCSR News he received some “hate” for attending the event.

However, he said he was given the opportunity to represent Hillsdale County to a potential future President, he wasn’t going to pass up the chance.
